To use the S1 storage engine, you must install the S1 operating system on all server nodes.
The S1 storage engine is built into the S1 operating system.
The installation process of the S1 operating system can either be done through
However, remote installation can be complicated as it is subject to
external factors such as a reliable network connection and network
speed. StorONE recommends that you use a USB drive for the installation process.
Before you begin
Make sure that you have:
The relay IP address (provided to you when you purchased the StorONE system).
A valid StorONE license key. Contact StorONE Support or your account
representative if you have not received one.
The S1 ISO file for the version you want to install.
Bootable media storage installation
The S1 operating system supports bootable media storage installation. The system may be installed through CD/DVD media, external hard disk, or USB drive. The following steps walk you through the installation process of the S1 OS on your server node through a USB drive.
Open your server console interface through your server management system.
Connect the S1 OS bootable USB drive to the node server.
Turn on the node server and access your server boot menu.
The boot menu list should display the bootable USB drive. The S1
operating system supports both Legacy and UEFI
installation. In the menu list figure, the legacy installation is
labeled as SanDisk, while the UEFI installation is referred to as
UEFI: SanDisk, Partition 1.
In the server boot menu, select either the Legacy or UEFI
installation of the S1 OS USB drive (both options are supported by
the S1 installation). The StorONE S1 boot menu list appears.
Use the up and down arrow keys to select the Boot to live Linux desktop
and press Enter. The StorONE processing
screen displays:
Wait for the S1 installation start screen to appear.
In the S1 installation start screen, double-click
the Install StorONE Appliance icon and wait for the EULA (End
User License Agreement) screen to display.
In the S1 EULA screen, read the End User License
Agreement (EULA) completely.
If you agree to the EULA, check the I
Accept checkbox and click Start. Wait for the ‘Disk
selection’ screen to appear.
In the Disk selection screen, select a disk for installing the
StorONE system. Make sure to select an internal disk from the
node server. The Summary screen appears.
In the Summary screen, you have the option to wipe all disks
connected to the server node. StorOne recommends to check all
connected drives, excluding the USB installation drive. To
proceed, select OK, Wipe checked disks button. A warning
popup window appears.
The Warning window prompts for confirmation that
the correct disks have been selected. Select Yes to start the
installation.
Wait for the installation to finish.
Once the installation has successfully completed, a popup
window appears. Click Ok to reboot the system.
If you are installing a Dual-node HA Appliance, then repeat steps
2–12 to install the S1 OS on the other node-server.
Remote network installation
To remotely install the S1 operating system:
Download the S1 ISO file to your local machine.
Access your server management system (such as ILO, BMC, IDRAK, AMT,
RSA, etc.) and open the console interface.
On the console menu, select Virtual media > Virtual
storage.
Select Logical Drive Type > ISO file.
Select Open Image, and open the ISO
image from your local machine.
Select Plug in. The ISO image
uploads to the node server. When the ISO image has uploaded, select OK.
Turn on the node server and access the boot menu.
In the above figure the Legacy ISO installation is
referred to as ATEN Virtual CDROM YSOJ, while the UEFI installation
is referred to as UEFI: ATEN Virtual CDROM YSOJ.
Use the arrow keys to select UEFI: ATEN Virtual CDROM YSOJ.
To complete the installation process, follow the steps
6–13 outlined in the USB installation section.
